Pop Culture

I don't really know how I'm supposed to write this blog because I don't know much about pop culture, but I'll tell you what I do know. Pop culture is stuff like fads, trends, icons, sayings, and even food. A brand name, certain sports and anything popular can be catagorized into pop culture. Music is a great influence on pop culture. Anything popular can be part of popular culture. A few of my favourite things in pop culture are Jershey Shore, watching hockey, Hedley, Lil' Wayne, ketchup chips, Ottawa Senators, coke, and the Source. Restaurants can be pop culture as well. Food chains become part of pop culture, or a trend, when they are a national chain, or very popular. Some examples are Tim Horton's, Sub Way, McDonald's, and The Keg. Icon's are trends that will last "forever", trends that will last a very long time. Though pop culture is very mainly focused on what is popular currently, but icon's are respected and have a great influence. After all, without icon's that once upon a time made a change, pop culture as we know it wouldn't be what it is today. Elvis Presley is an icon of the music genre rock, and Wayne Gretzky is the icon of hockey. Martin Luther King is the icon for equality between African-Americans and every other race on this planet. Marilyn Monroe is an icon, a legend. The number one icon in my life is and always will be God. Jesus and Virgin Mary are my icon's of the perfect people. Fads are things that are popular for a while, but it's more like 15 minutes of fame. Heelies are a good example of a fad. I knew a lot of people who have used white-out as nail polish, I wouldn't be surprised if it was once a fad. Hopefully, Justin Beiber will be a fad, at the most he'll be a trend. If he ever becomes an icon, this is one sad world (: Pop culture is a huge part of everyone's lives, and is significantly under rated. It plays a big role in our lives, and knowing pop culture is a decent chunk of common sense.
